The Council for British Archaeology is holding a two week Festival of Archaeology again this year commencing 17th July and ending 1st August 2010.
Our Society will be taking part in a small way and we will be getting some of the Iron Age pottery, (excavated by the Society at Dorket Head), out of the Archaeology Store in Mansfield Museum to put on display. Visitors will be allowed to handle pieces of the approximately two thousand year old Iron Age pottery and this will take place on Tuesday, 27th July from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm.
Mansfield Museum staff are also going to put on archaeologically themed activities for children, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, at a cost of £1.00 per child, no booking necessary.
In addition the Finds Liaison Officer from the Portable Antiquities Scheme will be on hand for a couple of hours to identify any finds that members of the public care to bring in on the day.
The Festival of Archaeology is a national event with many activities being held throughout the country. If you wish to see what is happening in Nottinghamshire, and the surrounding counties, please check the website for the Council of British Archaeology, www.britarch.ac.uk for details.
