formed in the 1960s, based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and affiliated to the Council of British Archaeology.
The goals of our Society are still the same as when we came into being, to inform, to educate, and to enjoy archaeology. We organise a series of lectures from October through to May each winter. All lectures are held at St. Peter's Parish Centre, Mansfield, on the third Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm. A donation of £1.50 is requested at the door, coffee is served during question time. We arrange summer outings to places of archaeological or historical interest, and we also publish a quarterly newsletter covering the Society's activities as well as general archaeological news items. The Society also provides an opportunity to take part in archaeological excavations and gain an introduction to the techniques involved.
You do not have to be a member to attend the lectures or go on any of the Society's trips, but membership only costs £10.00 per person per year.
