formed in the 1960s, based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and affiliated to the Council of British Archaeology.
The Society organises a series of lectures from October through to May each winter. All lectures are held at St. Peter's Parish Centre, Mansfield, on the third Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm. A donation of £1.50 is requested at the door, coffee is served during question time. During the summer months a series of visits to places of archaeological or historical interest are also arranged. You do not have to be a member to attend the lectures or go on any of the Society's trips, but membership only costs £10.00 per person per year.
A newsletter is produced covering reports on the Society's activities and items of news on archaeological topics, this is sent out to members approximately every three months.
The Society also provides the opportunity to take part in archaeological excavations and gain an introduction to the techniques involved.
